Oriana House Reserve Center Receives National Reaccreditation
The Oriana House Reserve Center was recently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC). The accreditation program is a professional peer review process based on national standards that were developed by national leaders from the field of corrections, law, architecture, health care, and other groups who are interested in sound correctional management.
“The Oriana House Reserve Center received a 100% on all 32 mandatory and 200 applicable standards,” said Jason Varney, Oriana House vice president of correctional programs in north central and southeast Ohio. “I am proud of our staff who are committed to delivering high quality programming that can effectively help our clients turn their lives around,” Varney added.
Oriana House is private, nonprofit community corrections and behavioral health agency that provides services throughout Ohio. The Oriana House Reserve Center opened in 2017 at 27830 State Route 7 in Marietta. The 66-bed halfway house provides services for men and women in a 14-county area in southeast Ohio with the goal to divert adult felony and limited misdemeanor offenders from the crowded jail and prison systems to a highly structured, residential setting that emphasizes establishing the skills needed for successful community reentry.
In presenting the award, leadership from the American Correctional Association (ACA) complimented Oriana House staff on their professional level of operation and their success in completing the accreditation process.
ACA standards address services, programs, health care, and security operations essential to effective correctional management. Through accreditation, an agency can maintain a balance between protecting the public and providing an environment that safeguards the life, health, and safety of staff and offenders. Standards set by ACA reflect practical up-to-date policies and procedures and function as a management tool for agencies and facilities throughout the world.
Audit Chair Gregory Knowlin said, “The first impression was that this is a very, very, very clean facility, well maintained. Staff are very professional, cordial and knowledgeable in performing their duties. The residents were very respectful and well-mannered, and we didn’t see any tension between staff or residents. The residents appear to be happy and content and participating in programs.”
Thomas Stickrath, CAC Chairperson complimented Oriana House staff and programming. “Every profession strives to provide a high quality of service to society. To know that you, your staff, and other officials are complying with the requirements of the accreditation process is indeed a statement of a high level of commitment to the staff and people under your care,” Strickrath said.
Oriana House’s community corrections programs are reaccredited every three years. February 12, 2025
